New Jersey Father Sentenced to 25 Years for Son’s Death

New Jersey Father Sentenced to 25 Years for Son’s Death
  • PublishedAugust 5, 2024

In a tragic case that has gripped the community, Christopher Gregor, a New Jersey father, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the death of his 6-year-old son, Corey Micciolo. Gregor was found guilty of child endangerment and manslaughter in May, following evidence that he forced his son to endure abusive treadmill workouts, ultimately leading to the boy’s death.

The sentencing comes after a four-week trial and nearly three-and-a-half years after the boy’s death in April 2021. Prosecutors presented compelling evidence, including video footage showing Gregor increasing the treadmill speed, causing Corey to fall multiple times. The abuse was reportedly motivated by Gregor’s belief that his son was overweight.

On April 2, 2021, Corey woke up from a nap feeling nauseated, stumbling, and slurring his words. Surveillance footage later showed Gregor carrying Corey’s limp and battered body into the hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead shortly before 5 PM. Medical testimony revealed the severity of Corey’s injuries, which included a seizure during a CT scan, despite emergency measures taken by medical staff.

In a statement to the court, Gregor denied responsibility, claiming he did not cause his son’s death. “I did nothing to cause Corey’s passing,” he stated. However, Corey’s mother, Breanna Micciolo, expressed her anguish and anger, calling Gregor a “monster” and declaring she would never forgive him.

This case underscores the critical importance of child protection and the severe consequences of abuse. The community hopes this sentence brings some measure of justice and closure for Corey’s family.
