Janhvi Kapoor’s latest thriller, ‘Ulajh,’ opened with a modest Rs 1.10 crore at the Indian box office on Friday. Despite extensive promotions, the film struggled to draw large audiences on its first day. ‘Ulajh’ faced a significant box office clash with ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,’ which garnered Rs 2 crore on its opening day.
This opening marks the lowest for a Janhvi Kapoor-led film in recent times. Her previous film, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Maahi,’ co-starring Rajkummar Rao, had a more robust opening of Rs 6.75 crore earlier this year. ‘Ulajh,’ directed by Sudhanshu Saria, features a complex genre that may have contributed to the lukewarm advance bookings and mixed reviews from both critics and audiences.
The film’s performance at the box office is anticipated to improve over the weekend, as business typically spikes on Saturday and Sunday. However, ‘Ulajh’ is facing fierce competition from several major releases. Marvel’s ‘Deadpool and Wolverine,’ which received exceptional reviews, continues to perform strongly in its second weekend. Additionally, the ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ craze hasn’t completely died down, adding further pressure on ‘Ulajh.’
Looking ahead, Janhvi Kapoor’s next project, ‘Devara: Part I,’ is already generating significant buzz. The Telugu film, featuring ‘RRR’ fame Jr NTR opposite Janhvi, is expected to make a significant impact at the box office and could potentially be the biggest film of Janhvi’s career to date.
