Himachal Pradesh Faces Crisis: Cloudburst in Shimla and Flash Floods in Kullu
  • PublishedAugust 1, 2024

Himachal Pradesh has been placed on high alert as relentless rainfall has caused widespread disruption across the state. A severe cloudburst in the Samej Khad area of Rampur, Shimla, early Thursday morning, has left at least 19 people missing. The torrential downpour has led to significant water level rises in local rivers and streams, exacerbating the situation.

In response, a coordinated rescue effort is underway involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and home guards. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap confirmed that teams from the Rampur sub-divisional administration are also actively participating in the search and rescue operations.

Adding to the distress, Kullu’s Manikaran Sahib, located near Kasol, experienced flash floods, raising concerns among residents and visitors. The Beas River’s water level has surged, heightening the threat of further flooding. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the region, warning of potential additional cloudbursts and landslides.

The situation remains critical as authorities work tirelessly to locate the missing and ensure the safety of those affected. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow official guidance as the state braces for continued adverse weather conditions.
