Trump Adapts Strategy in Response to Kamala Harris’s Candidacy
Washington, D.C., July 31, 2024 — In the wake of President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, former President Donald Trump is rapidly adjusting his campaign strategy to confront his new opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. With less than 100 days until the election, Trump is now targeting Harris, the first Black, female, and South-Asian-origin Vice President, who is nearly two decades younger than him.
Trump’s campaign has been forced to pivot from attacking Biden’s health to devising new strategies against Harris. Previously, Trump centered his criticism around Biden’s age, but with Harris as the Democratic nominee, Trump’s focus has shifted. He has begun using various derogatory terms to describe Harris, including “Lying Kamala” and “Crazy Kamala,” and has made misleading statements about her stance on abortion.
In response to this shift, Trump will participate in a series of campaign events. On Wednesday, he will travel to Chicago for a roundtable discussion with African American journalists, where he will highlight his administration’s achievements for Black Americans. Later, he will hold a rally in Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state, and will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for a campaign event with running mate J.D. Vance.
Vance, once a critic of Trump, has become a prominent supporter, although past controversial statements have recently surfaced. As Trump recalibrates his campaign approach, Harris continues to engage with voters, including a scheduled event in Houston addressing African-American students.
