Hamas Issues Statement on the Assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran

Tehran, July 31, 2024 — The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has released an official statement following the assassination of its political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, Iran. The Palestinian group has accused Israel of carrying out the attack.

Statement by Hamas:

“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. [And do not think that those who are killed in the way of God are dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord.]

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas mourns our great Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic nation, and all the free people of the world: brother, leader, martyr, Mujahid Ismail Haniyeh.

The head of the movement was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran, after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president.

To God we belong and to Him we shall return. And it is a struggle, victory or martyrdom.”

Haniyeh, a prominent figure in Hamas, had been in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president. The attack on his residence, which Hamas attributes to Israeli forces, resulted in his death.

Hamas’s statement underscores the group’s commitment to its cause and frames Haniyeh’s death as a martyrdom in the ongoing struggle. The statement calls upon the Palestinian people, as well as the Arab and Islamic nations, to continue their resistance.
