July 28, 2024 – Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has applauded Manu Bhaker’s historic bronze medal win in the Women’s Air Pistol event at the Paris 2024 Olympics and highlighted the substantial investment in her training. Bhaker’s achievement marks India’s first Olympic shooting medal by a woman in 20 years.
Mandaviya disclosed that approximately Rs 2 crore was invested in Bhaker’s training, including sending her to Germany and Switzerland for advanced preparation. “Manu Bhaker’s triumph is a proud moment for our nation. The financial support and world-class training provided under the ‘Khelo India’ and TOPS schemes were pivotal in her success,” Mandaviya said.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and talent development, stating, “We have created a robust ecosystem for our athletes, ensuring they have access to the best coaching and resources. I am confident that our athletes will continue to excel at the Paris Olympics.”
Bhaker will also compete in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event with Sarabjot Singh, with qualification rounds scheduled for later today. The Indian shooting and archery teams are set to compete, with Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta aiming to further boost India’s medal count.
