Indian Army Foils Pakistan’s Border Action Team Attack in J&K’s Kupwara: One Soldier Dead, Four Injured
  • PublishedJuly 27, 2024

Kupwara, July 27, 2024 – In a valiant operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Indian Army successfully foiled an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) on Saturday. The operation resulted in the death of one soldier, while four others, including a Major rank officer, sustained injuries. A Pakistani terrorist was also killed in the encounter.

The Border Action Teams, comprising commandos from the Pakistan Army and terrorists, have a history of infiltrating the LoC. The recent encounter, the second in Kupwara within three days, commenced in the Kamkari area following credible intelligence regarding terrorist movements. The Army’s alert troops swiftly responded to the threat, preventing further infiltration.

“Action by Border Action Team has been foiled by alert Indian Army troops on Saturday morning in Kamakari sector,” a source told PTI. During the intense gunfight that lasted for hours, one Pakistani intruder was killed, while two others managed to retreat to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The injured soldiers, including the Major, were evacuated from the operation site as the gunfight continued. The Indian Army remains vigilant and committed to safeguarding the nation’s borders.

Earlier, on July 24, security forces neutralized an unidentified terrorist in an overnight encounter in Kupwara’s Lolab area, where a soldier was also killed.

Sources indicate that around 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are currently hiding in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s hilly districts. These terrorists are highly trained and equipped with sophisticated weapons, including American-made M4 Carbine Rifles with night vision devices, prompting ongoing counter-terror operations by security forces in the region.
