Modi Slams Opposition on Agnipath Scheme During Kargil Vijay Diwas Tribute

On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, paying tribute to the fallen heroes. He also virtually inaugurated the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel, aimed at ensuring all-weather connectivity between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.

During his address, Modi criticized the Opposition for their stance on the Agnipath scheme, accusing them of attempting to undermine the Army. He highlighted their past failures, including the delay in implementing One Rank One Pension and inadequate provisions for soldiers. “They do not care about the soldiers,” he remarked, emphasizing his government’s efforts to support ex-servicemen with over ₹1.25 lakh crore under the pension scheme.

Modi condemned Pakistan for its continued reliance on terrorism and proxy war, asserting that India’s bravehearts would decisively crush any threats. “From where I am standing, the masters of terrorism can hear my voice directly,” he warned.

The Prime Minister also celebrated the progress in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir post-Article 370 abrogation. He noted the revival of the tourism sector, the opening of a cinema hall in Kashmir after decades, and the peaceful Tazia procession in Srinagar after 35 years, signifying a return to harmony.

“Kargil Vijay Diwas tells us that the sacrifices made for the nation are immortal,” Modi declared, urging the country to remember the names of those who laid down their lives for national security, forever etched in collective memory.
