In the West Bengal bypolls held on July 10, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured victories in Raiganj, Bagda, and Ranaghat Dakshin, and maintained an unassailable lead in Maniktala. TMC candidates Krishna Kalyani, Madhuparna Thakur, and Mukut Mani Adhikari won their respective seats, while Supti Pandey led in Maniktala.
Krishna Kalyani won Raiganj by 50,077 votes over BJP’s Manas Kumar Ghosh. Madhuparna Thakur, daughter of TMC Rajya Sabha MP Mamatabala Thakur, won Bagda by 33,455 votes against BJP’s Binay Kumar Biswas. Mukut Mani Adhikari defeated BJP’s Manoj Kumar Biswas by 39,048 votes in Ranaghat Dakshin. Supti Pandey led by 31,441 votes in Maniktala over BJP’s Kalyan Chaubey.
These seats fell vacant after the previous MLAs joined TMC to contest Lok Sabha polls. Despite BJP’s allegations of electoral irregularities, TMC claimed the bypoll results as a clear rejection of BJP by the people of Bengal. The bypoll victories bolster TMC’s position after winning 29 parliamentary seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections, while BJP’s performance continued to decline.
