  • PublishedJuly 9, 2024

On the second day of his Russia visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after a warm welcome in Moscow, met with President Vladimir Putin. The leaders, who have met 16 times over the past decade, discussed several key issues, including the construction of six new nuclear power units in India and low-power nuclear plant development. Putin expressed gratitude for Modi’s visit, describing India as an “all-weather friend.”

During a private dinner and a drive in Putin’s electric car, the leaders discussed their shared commitment to global prosperity. Modi praised Russia’s assistance in evacuating Indian students from war zones and emphasized the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations. He highlighted India’s significant contributions to global economic growth and its achievements in space exploration and digital transformation.

Modi paid tribute to Soviet soldiers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and interacted with artists from the Russian Cultural Troupe. He also announced the opening of new Indian consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg. In his address to the Indian community, Modi spoke of India’s rapid development over the past decade and its ambitious goals for the future, reaffirming the strong bond between India and Russia.

After Russia, Modi will visit Austria, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the nation in 40 years. This diplomatic tour underscores India’s commitment to strengthening international relationships and enhancing global cooperation.
