Delhi Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Light Rains for Next Five Days
  • PublishedJuly 9, 2024

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain showers across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) from July 9 to July 14. These showers are expected to bring relief from the prevailing heatwave, with moderate rains anticipated in Southeast Delhi and NCR, accompanied by gusty winds. Thunder and lightning are also likely along with these showers. While heavy rains continue to affect western and northeastern states under red alerts, Delhi currently remains in a green ‘no warning’ zone.

Earlier today, localized heavy downpours were reported in various parts of Delhi, including Laxmi Nagar, Central Secretariat, and Dilshad Garden, resulting in waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The city’s current weather conditions include a minimum temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius and a maximum of around 33 degrees Celsius, coupled with high humidity levels.

Despite recent challenges, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remains satisfactory at 76 as per the Central Pollution Control Board’s latest data. The city faced significant disruptions from heavy rainfall on June 28, which led to severe waterlogging, flooding, and traffic jams. This event also caused structural damage at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1, resulting in injuries and one fatality. As of June 30, the rain-related death toll in the national capital stood at 11.

Delhi residents are advised to stay updated with local weather advisories and take necessary precautions during the anticipated rainy period to minimize inconvenience and ensure safety.
