Modi’s Moscow Mission: Energy Security and Ukraine War on the Agenda

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day visit to Moscow and Vienna, key discussions will focus on the Ukraine war, green fuel, and clean energy. On July 8, PM Modi will have a private dinner with Russian President Vladimir Putin at his residence, aiming to bolster India’s energy security and acquire clean technologies. The visit’s significance is underscored by the physical conferral of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, the highest state decoration by Russia, to PM Modi.

India seeks to deepen energy ties with Russia as Europe turns to West Asian supplies amid the Ukraine conflict. Discussions will explore various energy evacuation routes, including the Arctic, and increased investments in Russia’s energy sector.

A pivotal topic will be the ongoing Ukraine war. With insights from the recent G-7 summit in Italy, PM Modi aims to persuade President Putin to end the prolonged conflict and return to negotiations. Known for their mutual respect and strong personal rapport, the two leaders will engage in critical talks impacting global markets and security.

The following day, PM Modi will meet Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer to further India’s clean energy initiatives.
