AAP’s Sanjay Singh: Historic Claims and Allegations Fly in Jalandhar Campaign
  • PublishedJuly 8, 2024

AAP leader Sanjay Singh vehemently accused opposition parties in Punjab of disseminating false information about the AAP government’s achievements during a campaign event in Jalandhar. Singh, while endorsing AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat for the July 10 Jalandhar West bypoll, lauded Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for what he termed as “historic” contributions benefiting all sectors of society.

Singh singled out the Congress, BJP, and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), alleging each of them for misrepresenting the AAP’s governance. He criticized the Congress for its lack of progress during its tenure, accused the Akali Dal of engaging in hooliganism while in power, and labeled the BJP as a party of “thieves” for allegedly poaching AAP’s MLAs and election symbols.

The upcoming bypoll was triggered by the resignation of Sheetal Angural, who defected from AAP to join BJP three months prior and is now contesting as their candidate. Singh demanded that the Election Commission recover the costs of conducting the bypoll from Angural.

Highlighting the achievements of the Mann government, Singh listed significant milestones such as the introduction of free electricity, establishment of more than 850 mohalla clinics offering free medical services, and efforts in drug control with over 25,000 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Chief Minister Mann also joined in the criticism, targeting Congress candidate Surinder Kaur and BJP’s Angural, accusing them of failing the electorate and betraying their responsibilities. The campaign rhetoric underscores the intensity of political competition in Punjab ahead of the crucial bypoll.
