  • PublishedJuly 6, 2024

In a shocking incident, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu president K Armstrong was brutally murdered by a six-member gang near his residence in Chennai on Friday. The attackers fled the scene, leaving Armstrong gravely injured. He succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

The Chennai police have detained eight suspects and formed a special team to investigate the case. Additional Commissioner Asra Garg mentioned that multiple motives are being explored, but the exact reason will be clear after further interrogation.

In response, BSP workers held protests in Chennai, blocking Poonamallee High Road and demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry. They also called for the resignation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

BSP chief Mayawati condemned the killing and urged the state government to ensure justice. Armstrong, a lawyer by profession, was a prominent Dalit advocate and had served as a Chennai Corporation councillor and BSP state president. He ran in the 2011 Tamil Nadu assembly election, representing the Kolathur constituency.
