Labour Landslide: Keir Starmer Leads UK into New Era
Keir Starmer’s Labour Party has won a decisive victory in the UK general election, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. Congratulations poured in from global leaders, highlighting the challenges and cooperation ahead.
Israel’s President Isaac Herzog expressed eagerness to work with Starmer on regional issues and praised outgoing PM Rishi Sunak for his support during difficult times. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy emphasized the UK and Ukraine’s strong alliance and thanked Sunak for his assistance against Russia.
Estonia’s Kaja Kallas, likely to become the EU’s top diplomat, underscored the importance of shared security. European Council President Charles Michel highlighted cooperation on stability, security, energy, and migration. French President Emmanuel Macron looked forward to continued bilateral cooperation, while Ireland’s Simon Harris stressed the significance of UK-Ireland relations.
India’s PM Narendra Modi, Canada’s PM Justin Trudeau, Australia’s PM Anthony Albanese, and New Zealand’s PM Christopher Luxon also sent their congratulations. Trudeau urged Starmer to build a more progressive future, stating, “Let’s get to it, my friend.”
Starmer’s victory contrasts with the recent rise of far-right parties in Europe, marking a significant shift in the UK’s political landscape.
