In a significant political development, Hemant Soren is set to return as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister for the third time. This decision emerged from the INDIA bloc’s meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence in Ranchi, as sources confirmed to India Today. Champai Soren, who assumed office on February 2 following Hemant Soren’s resignation and arrest on January 31, is expected to resign by 8 pm.
Hemant Soren’s return follows his release from jail on June 28, after being granted bail in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam. The INDIA bloc leaders reached a consensus on this leadership change, marking the end of Champai Soren’s brief tenure.
BJP MP Nishkant Dubey commented on the development, criticizing the JMM’s family-centric politics and urging the party to combat corruption. The decision was backed by Hemant Soren’s brother, minister Basant Soren, and his wife Kalpana Soren, who recently won a bypoll in Gandey.
In his first public rally post-release, Hemant Soren accused the BJP of planning to advance assembly elections in Jharkhand and called for a rebellion against feudal forces, vowing that the opposition INDIA bloc would oust the BJP from power nationwide.
