Fiery Debates Expected as Lok Sabha Session Resumes
The second week of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha begins today, July 1, after a tense adjournment on Friday. With the NDA and INDIA bloc leaders at odds, today’s debates are expected to be stormy, focusing on the NEET row and the Agnipath scheme. Inflation and unemployment are also key issues likely to be addressed by the opposition.
Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur will initiate the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha, seconded by first-term member Bansuri Swaraj. The debate, allocated 16 hours, will conclude with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply on Tuesday. In the Rajya Sabha, 21 hours have been set for the debate, with Modi expected to reply on Wednesday.
INDIA bloc leaders are set to stage a protest in Parliament, demanding a discussion on the NEET-UG paper leak issue, which was dismissed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday. Opposition members forced adjournment in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, demanding a dedicated discussion on NEET.
Congress MP Manish Tewari has given an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha to discuss new criminal laws, emphasizing their significant impact on the country’s criminal jurisprudence. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj highlighted the need for debates on employment and NEET, advocating for youth participation in Parliament.
