CBI Makes First Arrests in NEET-UG 2024 Paper Leak Case from Patna
  • PublishedJune 27, 2024

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant progress in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case by arresting two individuals, Manish Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar, in Patna. This development marks a crucial step in the investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding this year’s National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination. According to officials involved in the case, the arrested individuals are accused of providing leaked question papers and answer keys to aspirants at a secure location prior to the examination.

The CBI’s actions follow the registration of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) related to the NEET paper leak, prompted by widespread demands for an investigation after the exam was conducted on May 5, 2024. This year’s NEET-UG exam saw participation from over 23 lakh candidates across 571 cities, including 14 centers abroad. Concerns were raised post-results regarding irregularities in marking and alleged leaks in certain regions.

The investigation has now extended beyond Patna, with the CBI conducting inquiries in Jharkhand. Recently, authorities visited a school in Hazaribagh and interrogated staff, including the principal, as part of their probe into the scandal. The case has drawn national attention and scrutiny, impacting other exams as well. Following concerns over exam integrity, the NEET-PG 2024 examination was postponed abruptly, and the UGC-NET 2024 was canceled after its paper was leaked on the dark net.

The arrests in Patna signify a critical phase in the investigation, aiming to uncover the full extent of the alleged malpractice and ensure accountability in one of India’s most competitive and significant entrance examinations. The CBI’s continued efforts underscore its commitment to upholding the integrity of academic assessments and addressing public concerns regarding fairness and transparency in the examination process.
