Brazil Coach Dorival Junior Seeks Balance Ahead of Copa America Opener Against Costa Rica
  • PublishedJune 25, 2024

Brazil coach Dorival Junior admits his team has yet to find balance but hopes they will discover the right mix when their Copa America campaign begins against Costa Rica on Monday. The 62-year-old took over in January after a poor World Cup qualification start. “We need to find a balance for this team that was assembled three months ago,” he stated.

Unbeaten in four friendlies under Junior, Brazil’s defense and midfield have shown fragility despite their attacking talent like Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Raphinha. Notably, Junior omitted experienced players like Thiago Silva and Casemiro.

Despite inexperience, Junior believes in his squad’s quality. There is anticipation around 17-year-old Endrick, set to join Real Madrid after the tournament. Costa Rica, also in transition, should not be underestimated, warned Brazil captain Danilo.

The Brazil vs Costa Rica match will be held in Inglewood, California, at 6.30 am IST on Tuesday (6 pm Pacific Time on Monday). However, no broadcaster has been announced for India.
