Jagat Prakash Nadda, BJP’s national president, has assumed the role of Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, succeeding Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who now represents North Mumbai in the 18th Lok Sabha. Earlier this year, Nadda was elected unopposed to the upper house along with 40 others. In the recent Rajya Sabha elections, BJP re-nominated Ashwini Vaishnaw, L Murugan, and Sudhanshu Trivedi for a second term.
Nadda, who also took oath as a Cabinet Minister at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, has been assigned the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the new NDA government. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge continues as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Currently, eleven members of the Upper House hold positions in the Union Council of Ministers.
