Australia Defeats Bangladesh by 28 Runs in Rain-Interrupted Match
  • PublishedJune 21, 2024

In a rain-affected Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024, Australia emerged victorious over Bangladesh by 28 runs using the DLS method. Pat Cummins starred with a hat-trick, restricting Bangladesh to 140/8 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Chasing 141, Australia were 102/2 after 11.2 overs when rain halted play. The par score at that stage was 72, putting Australia ahead by 28 runs. Initially, the Australian openers Travis Head (30 off 19) and David Warner (28 off 17) got off to a flying start, but both fell soon after the first rain delay.

For Bangladesh, only captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (41) and Towhid Hridoy (40) managed significant contributions. Australia, having brought back Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, proved too strong, maintaining their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Australia topped Group B with wins over Oman, England, Namibia, and Scotland, while Bangladesh advanced to the Super 8 with victories over Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Netherlands, despite a loss to South Africa.
