  • PublishedJune 18, 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, today to release the 17th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme. Over 9.26 crore farmers across India will benefit from more than ₹20,000 crore in financial aid. Modi will also distribute certificates to over 30,000 Self Help Groups (SHGs) trained as Krishi Sakhis, who will serve as para extension workers.

The event, expected to last approximately 4.5 hours, will commence with Modi’s arrival at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur around 4 pm. He will then participate in the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan at 5 pm, releasing funds that will benefit 2,76,665 farmers in Varanasi. Modi will also engage with local farmers to review their agricultural produce.

Later in the evening, around 7 pm, the Prime Minister will attend the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat followed by a visit to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple at 8 pm, where he will spend approximately 25 minutes.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has organized the participation of over 2.5 crore farmers nationwide through various agricultural centers and Common Service Centres. The event aims to educate farmers on modern farming techniques, climate-resilient practices, and how to access their PM-KISAN payment status using tools like the Kisan-eMitra Chatbot.

The visit will be attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and several state ministers.
