Eid-al-Adha 2024 Celebrations Across India: Namaz Offered at Delhi’s Jama Masjid; Leaders Extend Greetings
Muslims across India celebrated Eid-al-Adha on June 17, 2024, marking the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage and commemorating Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice for God. In Delhi, prayers were held at Jama Masjid, while in Mumbai, namaz took place at Mahim’s Makhdoom Ali Mahimi mosque. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan extended heartfelt greetings, emphasizing the festival’s message of sacrifice, faith, and unity.
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan highlighted Eid’s role in fostering fraternity and social harmony through acts of compassion and kindness. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan echoed similar sentiments, stressing the importance of love and selflessness in building an egalitarian society, transcending religious, social, and cultural divides.
Leaders across political spectrum also conveyed their wishes. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and AIADMK leader K Palaniswami praised the teachings of Islam and Prophet Mohammed, extending warm regards to the Islamic community.
In Delhi’s Meena Bazaar, bustling activity marked the occasion with Bakrid shopping in full swing, featuring numerous goats priced at ₹25,000 and above. Similar scenes unfolded in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where sacrificial goats were in high demand, fetching prices up to ₹7.5 lakh.
Security measures were heightened in various states, including Uttar Pradesh and Hyderabad, to ensure peaceful celebrations. Authorities enforced Section 144 in Noida and Greater Noida, warning of strict action against violations.
Eid-al-Adha, known as Bakrid, underscores the spirit of sacrifice and unity among Muslims worldwide, reaffirming values of compassion and community.
