New CCTV Footage Unveils Bribery in Pune Porsche Crash Case
  • PublishedJune 14, 2024

Police have accessed new CCTV footage in the Pune Porsche crash case, revealing a Sassoon Hospital employee allegedly receiving a bribe. The footage shows Ashpak Makandar handing over ₹3 lakh to hospital employee Atul Ghatkamble, part of a conspiracy to swap the 17-year-old driver’s blood samples. The incident occurred on May 19, when the minor, driving a Porsche at 160 kmph, collided with a motorcycle, killing software engineers Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa in Kalyani Nagar.

The bribe was reportedly exchanged on Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) premises. Ghatkamble, along with Dr. Ajay Taware and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, had already been arrested for manipulating the blood samples. Initially taken at Sassoon General Hospital, the boy’s blood sample was later retaken at Aundh Government Hospital due to suspicions of tampering. DNA matching with the father’s sample confirmed the manipulation.

The teenager, son of builder Vishal Agrawal, had celebrated his Class 12 results with friends, drinking at city restaurants and driving. Three cases have been registered: one for the accident, another against a pub serving liquor to the minor, and a third involving the wrongful confinement of the family driver to take the blame. The boy’s parents and grandfather have been arrested in connection with the case.

The JJB extended the accused’s observation home remand until June 25, citing concerns that his release could hinder the ongoing investigation. The police continue to probe the incident and its aftermath.
