Intense heatwave conditions continue to grip Punjab and Haryana, with temperatures soaring to record highs on Thursday. In Punjab, Bathinda reached a scorching 44°C, while the nearby airport area peaked at 47°C, according to officials. Pathankot experienced 46.1°C, and Amritsar wasn’t far behind at 45.2°C. Other cities such as Patiala, Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Ferozepur, and Mohali recorded maximum temperatures of 45.6°C, 45.1°C, 44.7°C, 44.3°C, and 44.5°C, respectively. Chandigarh, the shared capital of Punjab and Haryana, also sweltered at 44.6°C.

The situation was equally severe in Haryana. Faridabad recorded a blistering 46.8°C, marking one of the highest temperatures in the region. Rohtak and Sirsa were not far behind, with temperatures hitting 46.5°C and 46.2°C, respectively. Hisar baked at 45.6°C, while Mahendragarh recorded 45°C. Gurugram reached 45.8°C, Ambala 45.3°C, and Karnal 44.4°C.

In other parts of Haryana, Nuh and Kurukshetra recorded highs of 45.8°C and 44.8°C, respectively, while Panchkula experienced a slightly lower temperature at 43.8°C.

The relentless heat forced residents to take precautionary measures. In Amritsar, women were seen covering their heads with scarves to protect themselves from the scorching sun while navigating the Heritage Street near the Golden Temple.

The heatwave has created challenging conditions across both states, urging authorities to advise people to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak hours. With no immediate relief in sight, residents are bracing for continued extreme temperatures in the coming days.
