In a series of encounters in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces thwarted terrorist attempts, resulting in casualties on both sides. In Kathua district, an encounter erupted between security forces and terrorists in Saida Sukhal village. A CRPF jawan, Kabir Dass, succumbed to critical injuries sustained during the exchange of fire with a terrorist. The encounter ensued when terrorists initiated indiscriminate firing to evade the security cordon, injuring a civilian in the process. Despite the loss, security forces successfully neutralized two terrorists, suspected to have infiltrated from across the border. The operation, led by senior police officers including the ADGP, involved cordoning off the area and conducting house-to-house searches with CRPF support.
Meanwhile, in Doda, terrorists targeted a joint checkpost of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and police at Chattergalla area, triggering a fierce gunfight. Five Rashtriya Rifles personnel and a special police officer sustained injuries in the encounter. Prompt reinforcement was deployed to intensify the operation against the assailants.
These incidents come in the wake of heightened terrorist activities in the region, exemplified by recent attacks on pilgrims and security personnel. The constant threat underscores the challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. As investigations continue to ascertain the identity and affiliations of the slain terrorists, the security apparatus remains on high alert to thwart any further attempts by militants to disrupt peace in the region.
