Heat Wave Grips Punjab: Temperature Soars, Relief Expected with Monsoon Arrival
  • PublishedJune 11, 2024

Punjab continues to reel under a scorching heat wave, with residents finding it challenging to step out of their homes due to the intense heat. The situation in the market during the daytime reflects a sense of desolation, with minimal activity observed. According to the latest updates from the Meteorological Department, the heatwave is expected to persist for the next few days, with temperatures soaring to 45 to 46 degrees Celsius in the coming three to four days.

Meanwhile, there is some respite on the horizon as the Meteorological Department has announced the onset of the monsoon. Reports indicate that the monsoon has arrived earlier than its scheduled time, bringing with it the promise of rainfall. However, the maximum temperature in the metropolis of Jalandhar reached around 42 degrees Celsius on Monday, leading to reduced traffic on the roads and people staying indoors during the afternoon.

The Chandigarh center of the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for June 11 and an orange alert for June 12, indicating a further increase in the intensity of the heat. The heatwave has been prevalent in many states, including Punjab, for the past 2-3 days, attributed partly to heavy rains experienced recently.

Pathankot recorded the highest temperature in the state at 43.8 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Patiala at 43.7 degrees Celsius, Bathinda at 43.4 degrees Celsius, Amritsar at 43.2 degrees Celsius, and Ropar at 41.2 degrees Celsius. Despite the scorching temperatures, there is optimism as weather experts predict a slight decrease in temperature later in the week. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 43 degrees Celsius in the coming days, offering some relief to residents grappling with the heatwave.
