Narendra Modi’s Cabinet Meets, Announces 3 Crore More Houses Under PMAY
The newly-formed NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, held its first cabinet meeting at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi. Thirty MPs took the oath as Cabinet ministers on Sunday evening at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The meeting saw a significant decision to assist in constructing 3 crore rural and urban houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Over the past decade, 4.21 crore houses have been completed under PMAY, providing essential amenities like household toilets, LPG, electricity, and functional household taps.
In other developments, PM Modi thanked Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his congratulatory message on beginning his third term. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena expressed dissatisfaction over their representation in the cabinet, receiving only one Minister of State post despite having seven Lok Sabha seats. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale addressed a recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a deliberate act to instill fear.
Portfolio allocations for the newly sworn-in ministers are yet to be announced, with a cabinet briefing expected soon. Key ministers sworn in include Nirmala Sitharaman and Pralhad Joshi, with BJP and JD(S) leaders from Karnataka also taking significant positions.
