Farmers’ organizations, represented by leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher of Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha respectively, have voiced their support for Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF constable who slapped Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. During a joint press conference at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh, they called for a transparent investigation into the incident, emphasizing that only Kangana Ranaut’s side of the story has been heard thus far.
The altercation between Kangana Ranaut and CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur occurred when Kaur was conducting a security check on Ranaut at the airport. The incident escalated into a physical confrontation, reportedly triggered by Ranaut’s refusal to comply with security procedures. Kulwinder Kaur cited Ranaut’s derogatory remarks about the farmers’ movement as the motive behind her actions.
Kulwinder Kaur, a resident of Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district, comes from a farming background and is related to prominent figures in the local farmer community. Despite being suspended from her job and arrested by Chandigarh Police, Kaur has gained widespread support across Punjab and beyond. The legal community has offered free legal aid to Kaur, with former assistant attorney general Davinder Pratap Singh leading the initiative.
In response to the incident, farmers from Punjab and Haryana are set to gather in Mohali on June 9 for a peaceful march to submit a memorandum demanding justice for Kulwinder Kaur. The incident has ignited debates on social media, with many expressing solidarity with Kaur and questioning the circumstances surrounding the incident.
