SGPC President Criticizes Kangana Ranaut’s Comments as Anti-Punjab
Reacting to the controversy involving Kangana Ranaut’s altercation with a Punjabi CISF official at Chandigarh airport and her subsequent comments on social media, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami condemned her remarks as a reflection of anti-Punjab sentiment.
Ranaut had suggested on social media that terrorism was increasing in Punjab, a statement Dhami described as indicative of a “sick mentality.” He emphasized that the rich, multi-ethnic, and multi-lingual culture of India owes its survival to the sacrifices made by Punjabis. “Her statement that terrorism was increasing in Punjab is an expression of her sick mentality. She should never forget that if the multi-ethnic and multi-lingual culture of the country is alive today, it was because of the sacrifices made by Punjabis,” he stated.
Dhami urged that the investigation conducted by the CISF regarding the incident should proceed without any political or personal influence, ensuring an unbiased examination of the facts. This statement came after the altercation, which reportedly occurred when Ranaut was asked to follow security protocols at the airport, leading to a heated exchange.
The SGPC President’s comments highlight the ongoing tensions and sensitivities surrounding regional and national identities in India, especially in light of inflammatory remarks made by public figures. The call for an impartial investigation into the incident underscores the importance of maintaining professional standards and fairness in the handling of such disputes.
