Punjab Government Shuffles Eight IPS Officers, Reinstates Ludhiana and Jalandhar Police Commissioners

In a recent development, the Punjab government has initiated the transfer of eight IPS officers, notably reinstating Kuldeep Singh Chahal and Swapan Sharma as the police commissioners of Ludhiana and Jalandhar, respectively. This move comes after both officers were previously transferred from their positions by the Election Commission during the enforcement of the model code of conduct for the June 1 election.

As per the latest orders issued, Nilabh Kishore, the commissioner of police for Ludhiana, has been reassigned as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for the Special Task Force (STF) based in Chandigarh. Similarly, Jalandhar’s commissioner of police, Rahul S, has been transferred to the position of director at the Vigilance Bureau.

Further changes include the appointment of S Boopathi, DIG of Jalandhar Range, as the new DIG of Administration for Punjab in Chandigarh, filling a previously vacant post. Additionally, DIG Harmanbir Singh, currently serving as the commandant of the 75th Battalion of Punjab Armed Police in Jalandhar, will succeed Boopathi as the new DIG of Jalandhar.

Ajay Maluja, who held the position of DIG for the STF in Bathinda, has been reassigned as the DIG for Ferozepur. Meanwhile, Gagan Ajit Singh, a PPS officer serving as an SSP with the Sadak Suraksha Force, has been relieved of his duties at the 2nd Commando Battalion in Bahadurgarh.
