  • PublishedJune 4, 2024

As the results of the Lok Sabha elections unfold in Punjab, the Congress party has taken an early lead, ahead in seven out of the 13 constituencies. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) closely follows, leading in three constituencies. Independents have secured leads in two seats, while the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leads in one constituency.

Former Chief Minister Charanjit Channi of the Congress commands a significant lead over his nearest rival in Jalandhar, while former Deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa leads in Gurdaspur. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring maintains a lead in Ludhiana against the BJP candidate.

In closely contested battles, Congress candidates Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi and Sher Singh Ghubaya face tough competition in Patiala and Ferozepur respectively. AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer leads in Sangrur, challenging the incumbent MP and a Congress candidate.

In a notable development, independent candidates take the lead in Khadoor Sahib and Faridkot. Jailed radical Sikh leader Amritpal Singh and Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassin Beant Singh, lead in these constituencies respectively.

As the counting progresses, the political landscape in Punjab witnesses intriguing shifts, setting the stage for further analysis and interpretation of the election results.
