The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted “isolated light rainfall along with thunderstorms” between June 3 and 6 in Punjab and Haryana. Additionally, many districts may experience dust storms over the next 24 hours, as per IMD predictions.

Due to the influence of a Western Disturbance, some parts of Punjab are expected to receive rainfall, leading to a temporary relief from the scorching temperatures. IMD officials stated that maximum temperatures in Punjab are unlikely to rise until June 6.

An orange alert has been issued for Punjab, indicating the need for preparedness for adverse weather conditions. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature in the state, reaching 46.8 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Sirsa district registered the highest temperature at 46.7 degrees Celsius on Monday, as the heatwave persisted. Other districts like Mewat, Balasmand, Faridabad, and Rohtak also experienced high temperatures.

The IMD’s media bulletin highlighted heatwave conditions in Chandigarh, Narnaul, Rohtak, and Sirsa districts. The average maximum temperature in Haryana rose by 1.6 degrees Celsius compared to Sunday, remaining 3.7 degrees Celsius above normal.

Additionally, a “yellow alert” for thunderstorm/lightning was issued for the state, urging residents to stay cautious.
