Congress Leads in Punjab with Seven Seats, AAP Ahead in Three: Early Trends

According to initial Election Commission trends, the Congress party is leading in seven seats in Punjab, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is ahead in three.

Congress candidates are leading in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Anandpur Sahib, and Ludhiana. AAP is leading in Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, and Patiala.

In Gurdaspur, Congress’s Sukhjinder Randhawa is ahead of BJP’s Dinesh Singh Babbu by 1,978 votes. In Amritsar, Congress candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla leads AAP’s Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal by 2,684 votes. Vijay Inder Singla of Congress leads in Anandpur Sahib against AAP’s Malvinder Singh Kang by 381 votes.

Amar Singh of Congress is leading in Fatehgarh Sahib against AAP’s Gurpreet Singh GP by 7,556 votes, and Sher Singh Ghubaya is ahead in Ferozepur against AAP’s Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar. Charanjit Singh Channi leads in Jalandhar against BJP’s Sushil Rinku, while Amrinder Singh Raja Warring is leading in Ludhiana against BJP’s Ravneet Singh Bittu.

AAP’s Raj Kumar Chabbewal leads in Hoshiarpur against Congress’s Yamini Gomar, while Balbir Singh is ahead in Patiala against Congress’s Dharamvira Gandhi. In Sangrur, AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer is leading against SAD’s Simranjit Singh Mann.

SAD’s Harsimrat Kaur Badal leads in Bathinda. Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, contesting as an independent, leads in Khadoor Sahib against Congress’s Kulbir Singh Zira. Independent candidate Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa is leading in Faridkot against AAP’s Karamjit Singh Anmol.

The counting of votes for Punjab’s 13 Lok Sabha seats and the lone Chandigarh seat began at 8 am amid tight security.
