Congress Leader Manish Tewari Leads in Chandigarh Lok Sabha Election
Congress leader Manish Tewari is currently leading in the Lok Sabha elections from Chandigarh by nearly 5,000 votes, as per the latest data from the Election Commission. Tewari, a senior Congress leader and two-time member of parliament, is contesting against his nearest BJP rival Sanjay Tandon and Bahujan Samaj Party’s Ritu Singh.
With a voter turnout of 62.80 percent in Chandigarh, Tewari’s lead reflects a strong showing for the Congress in the region. Tewari, who currently holds the position of sitting MP from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, has a long-standing political career within the Congress party. He entered politics through the National Students Union of India, the Congress’s student wing, and later served as its leader from 1986 to 1993. He also led the Youth Congress from 1998 to 2000.
After a brief setback in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Tewari regained momentum by winning from Ludhiana in 2009. He was subsequently inducted into the Manmohan Singh government in 2012, where he served as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting until 2014. Despite not contesting the parliamentary elections in 2014 due to health reasons, Tewari secured victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Anandpur Sahib.
His current lead in the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat underscores his political prowess and popularity among voters. As the Lok Sabha election results continue to unfold, Tewari’s performance reaffirms the Congress’s presence in Chandigarh’s electoral landscape.
