Congress Candidate Leads in Barmer Lok Sabha Constituency, BJP Minister Trails
As the Lok Sabha election results unfold, Barmer constituency witnesses an intriguing battle for supremacy. Congress party’s Umeeda Ram Beniwal has surged ahead, leading independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati by a significant margin of 23,113 votes, as per the latest update from the Election Commission of India (ECI) website at 12:42 pm. Meanwhile, BJP’s Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Kailash Choudhary, finds himself trailing at number three by a staggering margin of 1,74,219 votes.
The campaign in Barmer was marked by intense competition among prominent candidates. Beniwal, backed by the Congress, has strategically targeted the constituency’s diverse demographics, including Dalits, Muslims, and traditional Congress voters. Her emphasis on addressing critical issues such as electricity, education, water scarcity, and enhanced mobile connectivity has resonated with voters.
On the other hand, Bhati, an independent candidate and a young contender, capitalized on local grievances, particularly concerning inadequate power supply despite Barmer’s status as a significant electricity provider. Despite being a former BJP aspirant, Bhati’s decision to contest independently underscores the complexities within the political landscape of Barmer.
BJP, keen on maintaining its stronghold in the constituency, deployed key campaigners advocating for a ‘double-engine’ government, promising the implementation of both state and centrally sponsored schemes. However, Choudhary’s trailing position signifies a potential shift in voter sentiment.
With a diverse electorate comprising various communities like Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Jats, Muslims, and Rajputs, the Barmer constituency reflects the intricate dynamics of Indian politics. As the final results near, the contest in Barmer serves as a microcosm of the broader political narrative shaping the nation.
