BJP Faces Surprising Reverses in Hindi Heartland States in Lok Sabha Election Results 2024
  • PublishedJune 4, 2024

As the Lok Sabha election results unfold, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is experiencing unexpected setbacks in several Hindi heartland states, notably in Uttar Pradesh, a politically crucial state with 80 Lok Sabha seats. According to Election Commission data, the BJP is engaged in a tight contest with the Samajwadi Party (SP), with both parties leading in similar numbers of seats.

In Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP secured a significant victory in 2019 with 62 seats, the party is now leading in only 35 seats, while the SP is close behind with 34 seats. The opposition INDIA bloc alliance is ahead in 42 seats, indicating a potential shift in the state’s political dynamics.

Despite these challenges, prominent leaders such as Narendra Modi in Varanasi, Rajnath Singh in Lucknow, and Akhilesh Yadav, along with Dimple Yadav in Kannauj and Mainpuri respectively, are comfortably leading in their constituencies. Congress candidates Rahul Gandhi and Kishori Lal Sharma are also ahead in Rae Bareli and Amethi.

In other states like Haryana, Rajasthan, and Bihar, the BJP is facing tough competition from rival parties. In Haryana, the Congress is leading in six seats compared to the BJP’s four, while in Rajasthan, the BJP is ahead in 14 seats against the Congress’s eight. In Bihar, the BJP-JD(U)-LJP(R) alliance is maintaining a strong position against the RJD-Congress-Left alliance, leading in 31 seats out of 40.

The evolving electoral landscape suggests a potential realignment of political forces in the Hindi heartland, with significant implications for national politics.
