Two Loco Pilots Injured as Goods Trains Collide in Punjab
Two loco pilots, Vikas Kumar and Himanshu Kumar, were injured in an early morning collision on June 2 when a stationary goods train was hit from behind by another at Sirhind railway station in Fatehgarh Sahib. The incident, confirmed by a Government Railway Police (GRP) official, resulted in significant damage but no loss of life.
The collision caused one engine to flip onto another track, subsequently hitting a passenger train. Vikas Kumar sustained head injuries, while Himanshu Kumar suffered back injuries. Both were initially treated at Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital before being referred to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for further treatment.
Railway officials have commenced restoration work at the site, with trains being diverted through Rajpura, Patiala, and Dhuri, and some via Chandigarh to minimize disruption.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed relief that there were no fatalities and assured all necessary assistance. “There was news of an accident involving two trains at Sirhind railway station. Thank God that there was no loss of life,” he said in a post in Punjabi on ‘X’.
The district administration has been directed to provide all possible help to those affected.
