Pune Hospital Dean Sent on Leave Amidst Porsche Accident Cover-Up Allegations
  • PublishedMay 30, 2024

Dr. Vinayak Kale, the dean of Sassoon General Hospital in Pune, was placed on compulsory leave following revelations regarding the appointment of Dr. Ajay Taware as medical superintendent. This development unfolds amidst the Pune Porsche accident case, where Dr. Taware and another doctor are accused of manipulating blood samples to cover up the incident involving a 17-year-old boy driving a Porsche Taycan.

The Maharashtra government suspended Dr. Taware, Dr. Kale, and an employee named Atul Ghatkamble in connection with the case. Dr. Taware’s appointment was reportedly based on a recommendation from NCP MLA Sunil Tingare, endorsed by Maharashtra’s medical education minister, Hasan Mushrif.

Mushrif admitted to approving Dr. Taware’s appointment based on Tingare’s recommendation but emphasized he was unaware of the individuals’ backgrounds. Dr. Kale acknowledged issuing the appointment order as per the minister’s directive.

Allegations suggest the doctors and the hospital employee swapped the minor’s blood samples, with prosecution claiming they accepted bribes for attempting to save the boy. The police have made several arrests in connection with the accident, including the boy’s father and grandfather, as well as the owners of bars where the teenager allegedly consumed alcohol.

The case has garnered nationwide attention, prompting heightened scrutiny and action against those implicated in the cover-up and negligence surrounding the accident.
