Mahendergarh School Director Denied Bail in Bus Accident Case
The Punjab and Haryana High Court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the director of GL Public School in Mahendergarh following a tragic bus accident on April 11. The accident, near Unhani village, resulted in the death of six students and left 19 injured. The court dismissed the plea, emphasizing that school administrators cannot evade their responsibilities in ensuring student safety.
Director Subhash Yadav sought interim bail, arguing that he was neither the bus driver nor its owner. However, the court maintained that administrators must uphold their duties towards student safety, especially when parents entrust their children to their care. The bench emphasized the serious nature of the responsibility entrusted to school administrators and underscored the need for diligent action.
Highlighting the profound loss caused by the accident and its devastating impact on affected families, the court stressed the importance of accountability and fair investigation. The state argued that custodial interrogation was necessary to ascertain the extent of the driver’s alcoholism and whether any prior interactions or verifications were conducted.
Given the severity of the allegations and the need for thorough investigation, the court dismissed the plea, stating that such evidence could only be gathered through custodial interrogation. The decision underscores the commitment to justice and ensuring that such tragedies are not repeated due to mismanagement and negligence.
The ruling serves as a reminder of the paramount importance of ensuring student safety and holding accountable those responsible for any lapses in this regard.
