Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance to Launch Telecom Venture in Africa with Focus on 5G Broadband Services in Ghana
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd., is gearing up to venture into Africa’s telecom market through a partnership with Ghana-based Next-Gen InfraCo (NGIC). NGIC, backed by Ambani-controlled Reliance Industries Ltd. subsidiary Radisys Corp., aims to provide 5G broadband services to mobile operators and internet service providers in Ghana.
NGIC’s Executive Director, Harkirit Singh, revealed plans for the telecom venture, emphasizing its focus on affordable digital services in emerging markets. Partnerships with Nokia Oyj, Tech Mahindra Ltd., Microsoft Corp., Ascend Digital Solutions Ltd., and K-NET strengthen NGIC’s position. The company holds Ghana’s exclusive 5G license and plans to leverage this advantage to build scalable broadband services.
Ghana’s government, with a minority stake in NGIC, aims to replicate India’s success in low-cost mobile data revolution. The venture’s capital expenditure for three years is estimated at $145 million. While Reliance and other strategic partners currently hold no equity in NGIC, discussions are underway for potential future involvement based on the venture’s success.
NGIC’s launch signals Ambani’s strategic expansion into Africa’s telecom sector, focusing on delivering affordable and scalable 5G broadband services to Ghanaian consumers.
