Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a swipe at the Congress, suggesting that party leaders will attribute their defeat to electronic voting machines (EVMs) in a press conference on June 4. Shah asserted that while Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi wouldn’t be held accountable for the loss, party president Mallikarjun Kharge would likely lose his position.
Speaking at an election rally in Kushinagar, Shah claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had secured over 310 seats in the first five phases of the Lok Sabha polls, contrasting Rahul Gandhi’s projected tally of under 40 seats and Akhilesh Yadav’s expected count of fewer than 4 seats.
Shah criticized Rahul and Akhilesh for their alleged detachment from the issues faced by the people of eastern Uttar Pradesh, contrasting their affluent backgrounds with Modi’s humble origins. He accused the duo of corruption, while highlighting Modi’s purportedly unblemished record.
Further addressing the Ram temple issue, Shah accused the SP government of suppressing Ram bhakts and the Congress of stalling the temple matter for 70 years. In contrast, he praised Modi’s involvement in the temple’s bhoomipujan, pran pratishtha, and renovation efforts at various temples.
Shah’s remarks underscored the BJP’s narrative of portraying Modi as a leader committed to the country’s welfare, contrasting him with the alleged shortcomings of opposition figures.
