Jaishankar Criticizes Western Media’s Portrayal of India, Mentions ‘International Khan Market Gang’

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, in an interview with ANI, addressed the portrayal of India in Western media, likening it to the influence of the ‘Khan Market Gang’ in India. He coined the term ‘International Khan Market Gang’ to describe global entities that he believes support domestic elitist viewpoints.

Jaishankar remarked, “In the country today, there is a certain thought process, or entitlement process for which the metaphor of ‘Khan Market Gang’ is a very good description. There is an international Khan Market Gang as well.” He explained that these international figures are socially and ideologically aligned with their domestic counterparts, sharing a symbiotic relationship.

He further noted, “When the sales are down in the domestic Khan Market, the International Khan Market gang feels like, I need to pep up these guys and give them support,” suggesting that international media often bolsters domestic narratives critical of the current government.

Jaishankar also alleged that attempts are being made to influence Indian politics and voter choices, especially during election periods. He said, “A very clear attempt is being made to influence the direction of Indian politics and the choices of the Indian voter. It peaks at election time but continues even after that.”

He criticized various international rankings and reports, suggesting they aim to delegitimize and demoralize India by highlighting perceived flaws to influence electoral outcomes.
