Pune Porsche Crash: Police Arrest Five, Including Teen’s Father, After Fatal Accident
Two days after a speeding Porsche driven by an allegedly inebriated 17-year-old collided with a motorcycle, killing two software engineers, Pune police have arrested five individuals, including the minor’s father, Vishal Agarwal. The other four arrested include proprietors and executives of the pubs BLAK and Cosie, where the teen was served alcohol.
Vishal Agarwal, a prominent real estate developer, owns Brahma Corp, a nearly 40-year-old construction company involved in major housing projects and five-star hotels in Pune. The family’s business ventures have a reported net worth of Rs 601 crore.
The accident resulted in the deaths of Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, young techies. Pune Police are pursuing charges under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act against Agarwal for allowing his son to drive and consume alcohol.
Police are building a strong case, invoking Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. They assert the teenager knew his actions could cause death, given he was driving without a number plate at high speed after consuming alcohol.
“We are confident the forensic report will corroborate our findings, but our focus is on proving culpable homicide based on the knowledge of the consequences,” a top official stated. The teen, who claimed alcohol addiction in his bail plea, may be tried as an adult pending police application.
