High Court Issues Notice to Singer Gurdas Maan Over Allegations of Hurting Religious Sentiments
  • PublishedMay 22, 2024

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice of motion to Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan, who is facing allegations of hurting religious sentiments under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code. The notice was issued by Justice Sandeep Moudgil following a petition challenging the police’s cancellation report after an investigation.

Petitioner Harjinder Singh, alias Jinda, represented by counsel Ramandeep Singh Gill, AS Chahal, Jatin Bansal, and Kartik Sharma, argued that an FIR was filed on August 26, 2021, in Nakodar. The allegations centered around a viral video in which Maan allegedly made an incorrect statement about Laddi Shah being a descendant of Guru Amar Dass, causing offense to the community.

Justice Moudgil’s Bench was informed that the petitioner’s case relied on a video recording submitted to the police and presented in the trial court. However, it was claimed that the evidence was disregarded by the authorities with a biased approach, failing to properly examine the allegations and the script on record.
