The Delhi Police responded to a bomb threat email received by the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Delhi’s North Block on Wednesday. A bomb disposal squad and fire tenders were dispatched, but no suspicious items were found.
The threat, part of a series of recent hoax bomb emails targeting various institutions, was received by an officer at North Block. Similar threats have disrupted schools, airports, hospitals, and jails in Delhi and other cities including Jaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, and Ahmedabad.
An investigation revealed that the email originated from a Russian domain, likely using a VPN. Delhi Police plan to seek Interpol’s assistance to trace the email’s source.
In light of these threats, the Union home ministry emphasized the need for detailed protocols and improved security measures, including enhanced CCTV surveillance and regular email monitoring in schools. The Delhi government also issued advisories to educational institutes for timely checks of official emails.
