Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary today. Modi posted on X, “On his death anniversary, my tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji.”
Congress leaders also honored Rajiv Gandhi at Veer Bhumi in Delhi. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and MP Rahul Gandhi attended the homage ceremony on Tuesday morning. Other prominent Congress figures, including P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot, also paid their respects in the national capital.
Rajiv Gandhi assumed leadership of the Congress in 1984 after the assassination of his mother, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At 40, he became India’s youngest Prime Minister when he took office in October 1984.
