Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena expressed his distress over the alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal by Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Saxena stated that Maliwal called him, describing her traumatic experience and the subsequent intimidation by her colleagues. She also raised concerns about evidence tampering and coercion.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dismissed the allegations, accusing Maliwal of working with the BJP to undermine them. They claimed she entered Kejriwal’s residence without an appointment and intended to harm him. AAP suggested the BJP manipulated Maliwal into filing an FIR against Kumar.
The BJP demanded an explanation from Kejriwal regarding Maliwal’s access to his house despite his Z-level security. Bibhav Kumar was arrested by the Delhi police, who are investigating the incident and have recorded statements from staff present at Kejriwal’s residence.
The situation has intensified the ongoing political conflict, with both parties accusing each other of conspiracy and misconduct ahead of the elections.
