Father and Bar Owners Arrested After Minor Causes Fatal Porsche Crash in Pune

The father of a 17-year-old boy involved in a fatal car accident that killed two people has been arrested by Pune Police in Aurangabad. Bar owners who served the minor alcohol were also apprehended. The crash occurred early Sunday in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area when a Porsche, driven by the minor at an estimated speed of 200 kmph, collided with a motorcycle, instantly killing Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.

The case, now handled by Pune Police’s crime branch, led to the boy’s father being charged under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act for willful neglect and providing intoxicants to a minor. The victims, both IT engineers, were returning from a get-together when the accident happened around 2:15 am.

Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar confirmed the minor had been celebrating his class 12 results at a local pub, consuming alcohol illegally. Consequently, the pub owners face charges for serving alcohol to a minor.

Public outcry has followed the Juvenile Justice Board’s decision to grant the minor bail 15 hours after detention, imposing rehabilitative conditions such as mandatory counseling and a de-addiction program. Critics argue this response is too lenient given the accident’s severity.

Pune police have requested the sessions court to try the juvenile as an adult, citing the crime’s gravity. Legal action has also been initiated against the pub for their role in the incident, contributing to the tragic outcome.
