World Leaders Express Condolences on Death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi
World leaders have expressed their condolences following the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. Rescue teams began searching on Sunday after Raisi’s aircraft, carrying nine officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, went missing in Iran’s mountainous northwest near the Azerbaijan border. On Monday, state TV reported that the helicopter and the bodies of those on board had been found.
Chinese President Xi Jinping called Raisi’s death “a great loss to the Iranian people” and noted the friendship between the Chinese and Iranian peoples. European Council President Charles Michel and EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell expressed sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the Iranian citizens affected.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sadness, praising Raisi’s contribution to India-Iran relations. Iraq’s Prime Minister Shia al-Sudani and Hamas conveyed their solidarity with the Iranian people and government. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim highlighted Raisi’s dedication to justice and peace.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared a day of mourning, while Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani offered prayers for the victims. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized Raisi’s role in strengthening Russian-Iranian relations. Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Yemen’s Mohammed Ali al-Houthi also expressed their condolences.
